Biodiversity
For quite a while now (and especially since becoming addicted to macro photography), it has become a bit of a challenge for me to capture as many different organisms as possible, since I find it very fascinating to observe and take pictures of the diversity of life. So below is an overview of all the lifeforms that are featured on this website, sorted by taxonomy (click on the images to see the corresponding photos). In many cases, I can't determine the lifeforms on a species level, in which case I put them under the taxonomy level that I am comfortable with. However, even though I put a lot of effort in finding the correct species determination, I am not a trained biologist, and I am grateful for any taxonomical corrections or suggestions.
A bit of statistics: On this website are 3888 photos of lifeforms spread across 8 kingdoms ([K]), 29 phyla ([P]), 67 classes ([C]), 154 orders ([O]), 440 families ([F]), 816 genuses ([G]) and 656 species ([S]).I have divided the photos into 9 categories: Algae (28 photos), Animals (76 photos), Bryophytes (214 photos), Bugs (1926 photos), Fungi (337 photos), Lichens (381 photos), Microorganisms (668 photos), Plants (228 photos) and Slime molds (128 photos).
The handdrawn sketch to the left is Darwin's first drawing of a simple tree of life, which was the beginning of a new understanding of life on earth. I have always liked this picture a lot and it is a mini version of the taxonomy tree below, which is why I have put it here.
